KATONAH, N.Y. -- The board of trustees of the Long Island Museum in Stony Brook recently announced Katonah resident Neil Watson has been appointed executive director of the museum.

Watson was the executive director of the Katonah Museum of Art the last eight years. During his leadership, membership increased by 33 percent and the museum broke new ground with ambitious and award-winning exhibitions and educational programs.

Watson was named Westchester’s “Best Leaders and Bosses” by Westchester Magazine in 2012 and currently is an appointed museum panelist for the New York State Council for the Arts.

Watson will transition into the position on a part-time basis through September and October and he will assume the directorship of the museum full time Nov. 1.

The Long Island Museum is a Smithsonian affiliate dedicated to American history and art with a Long Island connection. It is at 1200 Route 24A, Stony Brook.
