KATONAH, NY - The Katonah Chamber of Commerce Halloween Parade combined with the Katonah Elementary School Halloween Fair on Saturday, giving kids a chance to not only show their Halloween spirit through exercise, but through support of the school as well.
The parade has been an annual event for over 15 years, but with budgets tightened this year, the annual treat for the trick-or-treaters nearly did not occur. But when co-chair of the Halloween Fair, Laura Beth Gilman, went to the Chamber with the suggestion to combine forces and hold the parade at the school, the Chamber was all for it, as was the school.
Co-President of the Katonah Chamber of Commerce, Edris B. Scherer, knows that partnering with the Katonah Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization was a necessity.
Everybodys budget these days is very tight, so were all looking for ways to mitigate those costs, said Scherer. When we partner with other organizations, we can find alternatives and share the costs.
Despite the unseasonable frigid temperature, and the surprise appearance of snow, the parade was a success, garnering many locals who annually take in part in it.
This would be the third one for us, said Ryan Becker, a local parade goer. The kids have such a great time with it, and its such a great community event.
The 2011 Halloween Fair is the 32nd annual installment, supporting the Katonah Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization. The KESPTO supports the enrichment programs of the school, including organizing assemblies and field trips.
The partnership is one that is highly valued by the Chamber, and according to Scherer, it is the example of a recent trend.
Throughout this year, the Chamber has been partnering with other town organizations to keep these traditional and cherished events going, she explained. Its important for our community to continue these events.
