The referendum is scheduled to run from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., at the Bedford Town House, which is located at 321 Bedford Road in Bedford Hills.

If the referendum passes, it would mark the first time that the downtowns have sewers. Currently, the affected areas rely on septic systems.

The project involves utilizing an existing state-owned sewage-treatment system, which is used for a women's prison in Bedford Hills, and extending sewer lines to parcels in the proposed district.

The total cost of the project is $20,459,800, with $19,259,800 paid for with a series of grant programs. The grants include up to $6.5 million from Weschester County to the town; $4.8 million in aid from the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) stemming from helping the Katonah-Lewisboro School District with sewage infrastructure at Katonah Elementary School; and a further $4 million in DEP aid stemming from assistance to St. Mary's Church to help with its school's sewage infrastructure.

The remaining amount of the project fund, which is $1,200,000, would be raised by bonding.
