Donald Foster, 68, Business Owner, Husband Of Former Peekskill Mayor

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. --Donald J. Foster, a lifelong Peekskill resident and longtime local business owner, died Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Northern Westchester Hospital.  He was 68. 

Foster was the husband of former Peekskill Mayor Mary Foster, who survives him. He is also survived by his son Scott (Melaine Fuentes) Foster, daughter Kelly Foster, grandson, Luke Foster, his godmother Leila (Casper) Knizeski, all of Peekskill; three brothers, William, James and Steven Foster, 10 nephews and nieces, and 9 great nephews and nieces; also his Aunt Mary Ann DiMilia.  

Donald Foster was the owner of Candles By Foster, in Peekskill, where he designed and manufactured custom made candles for any occasion. 

He was a board member of the former Peekskill-Cortlandt Chamber of Commerce where he initiated the Peekskill Beautification Committee and the Peekskill Downtown Business Council. A former Board member and past president of Lapolla Little League, he organized the Peekskill Sports Commission which successfully developed the Louisa Street Ballfield (Peekskill Stadium).  

He was born in Peekskill on April 21, 1947, the son of Margaret DiMilia of Peekskill and Joseph DiPietro of Buchanan.

There will be a funeral mass on Wednesday, July 8 at 10 a.m. at Assumption Church.  Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery. 

Friends may call on Monday, July 6 and Tuesday July 7,  from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home on Washington Street in Peekskill.
