BEDFORD, N.Y. Bedford police were in a police car outside of a Holly Branch Road residence early Saturday morning at 2:00 a.m. when the vehicle was approached by an 18-year-old male from North Salem and other riders, said Sgt. Tom Diebold.
When the driver stopped to check out the scene and asked what was going on, the officer noticed a strong smell of marijuana in the vehicle and on the driver, police said. The officer asked the driver to then step out of the vehicle and take a sobriety test, which he failed. The officer's vehicle that was at the Holly Branch location was there on a completely different matter, Diebold said.
The 18-year-old was given an unlawful possession of marijuana, driving while intoxicated, ability impaired by drugs, and a refusal of a pre-screen test. He was ordered back to court on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
The Bedford police also arrested a local woman for shoplifting in the Bedford Hills Kohls department store on Tuesday.
Ashley Hollingsworth, 28, of Pleasantville, was arrested and charged with petty larceny on Tuesday after she was caught stealing from the Kohls off of North Bedford Road, said Lt. Jeffrey Dickan of the Bedford police.
Hollingsworth was seen by store security entering a dressing room wearing sunglasses and carrying intimate clothing, and then left the room shortly thereafter with the items no longer visible. Store security confronted her outside of the store and she confessed to taking the items and hiding them in her purse, Dickan said.
Hollingsworth was taken into custody and released on $100 bail, and was told to return to court on February 16 at 7:00 p.m.
