In a circa-1900 fieldstone building, Chappaqua Station makes good use of its both of its charming oak-lined dining room and its location.
In the mornings, commuters can grab coffee and a bagel as they run for their trains. In the afternoons, the laptop crowd can settle in with sandwiches and salads. Later on, folks can enjoy live jazz with their vino and filet mignon.
The New York Times’ reviewer, M.H. Reed, was not only wowed by the station’s makeover, but also by the freshness of the produce used by the café.
Of special mention were its tasting plate of cheeses with grapes, nuts and jam; grilled Scottish salmon; housemade desserts, and the “Chappy” salad, a colorful concoction of chickpeas, sunflower seeds, roasted peppers, feta and beets that Reed called a “circus on a plate.”
Though a tad on the more plebeian side, their juicy hot dogs rated a big thumbs up from the Times, too.
Overall, The New York Times gave the café a rating of “Very Good,” only one notch below “Excellent.”
