BEDFORD, N.Y. -- The brother of Robert Durst disputes claims the Westchester native made in a recent HBO documentary surrounding the death of their mother in 1950.

Douglas Durst says his brother , a former Katonah resident and Scarsdale native, distorted the events surrounding their mother's death so he would sound more sympathetic, according to a report on CapitalNewYork.com.

The six-part HBO series premiered Sunday. “The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst,” examines his life. The son of real estate developer Seymour Durst, he was replaced by his brother as the director of the company in the 1990s. Robert Durst has been estranged from his family ever since.

Robert Durst has also been a fugitive of justice several times, and has been questioned in the disappearance of his wife, Kathleen McCormack, in 1982. In 2003, he went on trial for the murder of Morris Black. He was sentenced to three years in a plea bargain, and was paroled in 2005. Durst has also been questioned in the murder of his friend Susan Berman in 2000.

Douglas Durst says his brother "manipulated"  director Andrew Jarecki, turning the filmmaker into an “enabler.”

In the film, Robert says he witnessed his mother's death when she jumped off the roof of their home in Scarsdale. Robert said the four children did not witness their mother's death.
