Hundreds braved the cold and formed long lines outside local stores that opened at midnight with "doorbuster" deals.
At the Cortlandt Town Center, hundreds lined up at Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Old Navy and GameStop hoping to save hundreds on televisions, laptops, tablets, cameras and more.
The line at Best Buy wrapped around the building. Staff began letting shoppers in five at a time a little before midnight. One of the earliest shoppers said he lined up around 4 p.m. to buy a new laptop.
Westchester County police cars parked in front of the store entrance as officers helped maintain order. Lines remained long even after midnight.
Down the road in Yorktown, a smaller group gathered in front of Jefferson Valley Mall shortly before midnight. Sears, Macy's, Gap and a few other stores opened early Friday morning. The nearby Toys“R”Us opened even earlier at 8 p.m. Thursday.
