We are very fortunate in The Town of Bedford in that National chain stores are eschewed and private businesses are appreciated.
I have long known that about my hamlet of Katonah, yet, when I first decided to focus on the privately owned businesses of Bedford Hills, I had no idea how I would learn about how the twists and turns of a life and the following of one's passion would create the very unique establishments featuring a specialty niche, as in The Paint Box, my first pursuit.Yes, they are in the small hamlet of Bedford Hills, but they have worldwide reach with their expertise and networks.
Mark's Time is aptly named since Mark Reichbach, the proprietor, gives you just that - his time plus his expertise. I wish I were a client that would be buying some of his exquisite antique clocks and curiosities, but Mark always has stopped what he is doing in order to get out a special tool - one of hundreds both modern and antique, in order to simply pop open the back of my wristwatch in order to change the quartz battery!
Housed in the gorgeous 1906 Station House at The Bedford Hills Metro North Train Station for the past 11 years, plus a few other locations prior to that in Bedford since 1992, Mark has a long history in the field. Since 1971 he has dealt with antiques and antique jewelry. He began collecting pocket watches and then sought to learn to repair them.
He had collected over 50 pocket watches - hence his reputation as "Mr. Pocket Watch". He enrolled in an intense 18 month watch making course at Bulova in Queens, N.Y. and ended up teaching a course in antique pocket watches. He then became the watch expert at several choice shops throughout Manhattan.
Reichbach worked exclusively with watches for 17 years before he approached the world of clocks. "For watch makers, clocks are easier. For clock makers watches are impossible!" according to Mark.
Each piece speaks to him. He may make an appointment to visit you after seeing a picture but he prefers to have it in his hand or in front of him in order to evaluate & appraise it. Therefore, to our benefit, he learned his trade in the right sequence!
As a member of The National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors and a Certified Gemologist with the GIA, among other top tier associations, he trades and sells through shows and collectors nationwide. He regrets that "no one has passed the torch of the love" of music boxes that would adorn the salons of Europe's upper class and fine watches. In order to care for the pieces that cross his threshold,
Mark has antique watch & clock repair sets dating back to the 1800's.The oldest clock in his shop now is a 1712 French Grandfather Clock. He also has firearms dating back to the pre-Civil War period and can walk you through their development. He also has unique antique barometers and antique "quack" medical devices. Take the time and step back into another age when perhaps time passed a bit more slowly - at least more beautifully!
Mark is a true craftsman and a wonderful expert guide should you want to accent your home and your life with a beautiful clock or to enjoy a retro watch. Mark's Time is open from Tuesday - Saturday from 9-5.1 Depot PlazaBedford Hills, NY 10507(914) firstname.lastname@example.org
