Katonah Realtor Has Strong Interest In Local History

KATONAH, N.Y. -- Local history is a passion for Karen Benvin Ransom. The Katonah real estate agent recalls that her interest came along with living in Westchester communities as a child and adult.

“I grew up in the Tarrytowns and always loved to read. I loved history, legends and fairy tales from around the world -- many trips to the Warner Library and the family Brittanica set,” Ransom recalled. “I was fortunate to live in an area rich in history and lore with 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,' 'Rip van Winkle,' plus the capture of Maj. John Andre in Tarrytown's Patriot Park.”

Ransom, a resident of Bedford for 22 years, enjoys the link between her history interest and her job.

“I also will research an area or a neighborhood when I am planning the marketing of a home,” she explained. “I will then have them 'published' and promoted online. It gives a house a provenance -- added value.”

Ransom also explained that this includes researching a house, including its information in an article online and in her listing.

Ransom is also a past resident of Mount Kisco and Purchase. She is an associate broker with Houlihan Lawrence and works at its office in downtown Katonah. She has taken on many volunteer roles in the area, including at Caramoor, the Katonah Museum of Art and the Katonah Women’s Civic Organization.

Recently, Ransom began participating in a new program offered by Daily Voice, which is called Community Advisors, where people with local ties play a role in keeping the publication informed about important local news and events.
