KATONAH, N.Y. — Many have seen actor John Bedford Lloyd in movies like “The Bourne Supremacy” and “Philadelphia" and television shows like "Law & Order," but if you're a Katonah resident, you may also have seen him taking a Sunday stroll down Katonah Avenue.

Lloyd, who has lived in Katonah with his family for 25 years, is slated to emcee the Mount Kisco Child Care Center’s eighth annual Feed Me Fresh: An Edible Evening gala fundraiser Saturday, Sept. 22, at Ivanna Farms in Bedford Corners.

The Bedford Daily Voice asked Lloyd to name his five favorite things about Katonah. “Oh, there's a hundred things,” he said, rattling off stories about the Blue Dolphin Diner and Kelloggs and Lawrence general store. Here are his top five:

1) Where everybody knows your name

"We've been living here for 25 years, so that makes a difference. So I know that if I had to get on the train in an emergency and I'd lost my wallet and I had five minutes to catch the train, I know that I could walk into any store, from Willie Nick's all the way down to the Mobil station, and they'd say, 'Hi, John, what's up?' and I'd say, 'I need train fare. I'll be back later this afternoon. Can ya?' "

2) A beautiful day in the neighborhood

“The sidewalks of Katonah are the only place that I will pick up other people's garbage other than on the sidewalk in front of my own house. It depends on the garbage, but I will actually clean up the sidewalks of Katonah as I walk by.”

3) On Halloween, kids know Katonah is where it's at.

“Halloween in town. Hundreds and hundreds and hundreds and ‒ I'm not kidding ‒  five to seven hundred children will come by your house if you live in town ... it’s unbelievable.”

4) "You will flip!"

“The fire parade on the first Wednesday in the first week of June. You will flip when you see it.”

5) The spirit's the thing

“The people know how great Katonah is and they take care of the place, and it's got a great, great spirit.”
