The Jewish cultural and educational center will host a 10 a.m. "power breakfast" with Foreman as guest speaker. After attendees are served a lavish gourmet breakfast, Foreman will relay the tale of his career's journey from Belarus, part of the former Soviet Union, to Israel to Brooklyn.
When he was 7, Foreman's mother signed him up for boxing lessons after he experienced anti-Semitic bullying and beatings. He and his family emigrated from Belarus to Israel two years later.
In 2009, the 32-year-old Israeli boxer became the World Boxing Association's super welterweight champion and Israel's first WBA champion. The 5-foot-11, 154-pound Foreman turned pro in January 2002 as a junior middleweight and went undefeated for 29 fights until June 5, 2010.
He recently took a few years off, but is returning to the ring this month, with his comeback fight scheduled for Jan. 23 at B.B. King's in Manhattan.
Foreman, who wears a Star of David on his boxing trunks, is heavily engaged with his Jewish heritage. He is currently enrolled in rabbinical classes at a Jewish educational center in the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Tickets for the breakfast are $10 for each adult, and children can attend free.
