Celebrities With Bedford Ties Receive Emmy Nods

BEDFORD, N.Y. – Two celebrities with Bedford connections were nominated for Emmys Thursday. Bedford Hills resident Glenn Close received a nomination for her role as high-powered Manhattan attorney Patty Hewes on the legal drama "Damages.” Bedford native Kate Mara played a recurring role on the FX series "American Horror Story," which was nominated for 17 awards.

On each season of “Damages,” which began airing its fifth and final season on DirecTV's Audience Network on July 11, law firm Hewes & Associates takes on a different major case.

This is the fourth time that Close, 65, has received an Emmy nomination for best actress in a TV drama for her role as Hewes. She took home the award two of those times, and won a Golden Globe for best TV drama actress in 2008.

Mara, a Fox Lane High School alum, has also had roles in the TV shows “24” and “Entourage” and movies such as “Brokeback Mountain” and “127 Hours.” Among its many nominations, "American Horror Story" is up for an award in the category of Outstanding Miniseries or Movie.

Kate is the older sister of Rooney Mara, also a Fox Lane graduate, who starred in the American film version of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.”
