Caramoor's Online Auction Benefits Youth Programs

KATONAH, N.Y.—The Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts has teamed up with online charity auction site Charitybuzz to host its “Garden of Great Music” auction, which will raise money for the center's youth programs.

Charitybuzz allows bidders to participate in online auctions as a way to benefit their choice of charitable organization within the site's network of nonprofit partners.

Proceeds from Caramoor's auction will go toward supporting the nonprofit's efforts to provide music education programs to children and to mentor young professional musicians, like with the Bel Canto Young Artists program, which provides professional training for emerging opera talent.

Caramoor board member Susan Groner said that the 12 auction items were donated by affiliates of Caramoor who want to show their support, Caramoor board members and artists who work with the center. As to what is on the auction block, "they’re really more experiences," she said.

"Garden of Great Music" auction "experiences" include the chance to be a guest conductor at Caramoor's Fourth of July concert, as well as the opportunity to have the Caramoor String Quartet-in-Residence perform at the highest bidder's home. One highest bidder will get backstage access to Caramoor’s Jazz Festival and the chance to meet renowned American jazz drummer Roy Haynes; and another will be treated to a private tour of Caramoor's historic Rosen House and Gardens with seven guests.

Most importantly, Groner said, these experiences sponsored by different members of the Caramoor community "really provide access to things that you normally couldn’t buy.”

The auction is open for bidding through June 21 at Charitybuzz.com/Caramoor.
