Bedford Woman Receives Honor For Helping Valhalla Train Crash Victims

BEDFORD, N.Y. -- Riley DeJong, 21, of Bedford, a passenger on the Metro-North train that crashed and burned Feb. 3, 2015, has been honored for helping other passengers, according to lohud.com.

An emergency medical technician with the Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps, DeJong assisted others in making tourniquets for someone whose both legs were almost lost in the crash and helping drag the person from the wreckage, said lohud.com.

She also helped bring two others to safety from the fire following the crash and assisted arriving emergency personnel, the lohud.com report said.

“I’m thankful that I was able to help my fellow passengers in their time of need,” DeJong told lohud.com.
