Albert 'Chip' Chiappinelli, 79, of Katonah

KATONAH, N.Y. – Albert "Chip" Chiappinelli, a longtime Katonah resident, died June 1 at Northern Westchester Hospital after a fight against cancer. He was 79.

Born Aug. 10, 1932, in Mount Kisco, he was the son of Albert and Rose Chiappinelli. He spent his childhood above the family store on Lexington Avenue. Chiappinelli was valedictorian of his class at Mount Kisco High School in 1950 and graduated with honors from Hamilton College in 1954.

Chiappinelli enlisted in the armed forces, serving in the U.S. and abroad. Upon his return, he launched himself into the nascent world of computers, working at companies like Sperry Rand and IBM. Chiappinelli then started Computer Methods Corporation (CMC), a computer consulting and operations company.

He married the former Roseanna "Mitzi" McQuade in 1957 and they moved to Katonah, building a home at the top of Katonah Ridge, where they remained residents for 49 years.

After selling CMC, Chiappinelli spent several years consulting for American Express. Whether at a political event, a fundraiser, helping at St. Mary's Church or pacing the sidelines as his children played sports at John Jay, he was also active in his community.

Chiappinelli is survived by his wife Mitzi; a daughter, Lisa (Stuart) Sutherland; four sons, Andrew (Ann), John (Debbie), Peter (Sheryl) and Brian (Kathryn) Chiappinelli; a brother, Donald Chiappinelli; two sisters, Frances Brideau and Agnes Nelson; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Calling hours will be at Clark Associates Funeral Home in Katonah on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Katonah. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Mount Kisco

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity.
