Katonah Resident Adds New Music Series to His Mount Kisco Tavern

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- Expect a lot more up and coming songwriters at MTK Tavern. The three-year-old venue, which has always supported local musicians, has just entered an agreement with White Plains-based The Peak radio station to promote local emerging musical talent.

First up for the new "First Friday" performance: Emily Angell, a pop folk rock singer/songwriter, on Feb. 6 at 9:30 p.m.

"It was a fortunate coincidence that both The Peak and MTK Tavern were focusing attention on new and upcoming performers as 2015 began" said Pamela Condron, MTK music promoter and director  on the tavern's website. "It really made perfect sense to try to find a way to co-brand what each entity was doing. Being able to promote the bands and their music on a new weekly radio program and then giving them a Friday night to play live on stage for the public is fantastic. We feel this is a win-win situation for both The Peak and MTK, and certainly a great opportunity for the musicians."

The music venue/tavern/restaurant has always been known for its bands and special events, but is taking it up a notch with its food since hiring former X20 Chef Vincenzo DeRaco five months ago.

Owner Jeff Rosen, who hails from Katonah said MTK has gone through various itinerations in its three years in business, from starting as small plates only to a combination of small and large entrees. "Because we have a pub-like atmopshere people think we're all about fried food and burgers," he said. And though they definitely sell a lot of burgers, they're also about sophisticated, gourmet fare like duck tacos, sauteed crab cake, tuna sliders and coconut curry chicken nachos.

The menu also changes every few months to accommodate what's available seasonally.

Check the tavern's website for its various events nights such as half-priced bottle of wine, burger bash, acoustic music, and all night happy hours. Brunch will begin in February.

MTK Tavern is at 30 E. Main St., Mount Kisco, 914-218-3334, www.mtktavern.com/.
