Shaffer, a long time Bedford resident, turns 66 on Saturday.
Shaffer is an actor and musician who is best known for leading the Late Show Band for David Letterman.
Shaffer began his career in 1972 when Stephen Schwartz invited him to be the musical director for the Toronto production of Godspell. He went on to perform with the Saturday Night Live Band from 1975 to 1980. Through is connections at Saturday Night Live, Shaffer also served as musical director for John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd when they performed as The Blues Brothers.
Shaffer joined with David Letterman in 1982 and remained the leader of his band until Letterman's retirement in 2015.
