The Bedford Playhouse hosted a screening of "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" followed by a Q&A with Chase, who played Clark W. Griswold. Chase played Griswold in five Vacation movies.

Chase said the movie was shot on the Warner Brothers lot in California, which meant he had to wear winter clothing in the summer heat.

"Nothing like fake snow to make things work," Chase said.

When not talking about the movie, Chase, who also starred in classic films like "Caddyshack," "Dirty Work" and "Fletch," talked about his time on "Saturday Night Live," where he said his favorite character was Land Shark.

"Every time I got in that shark costume it was hard for me not to laugh," Chase said. "It seemed to me that what really made that sketch work was that he was a land shark. He was just dumb."

Chase said many of his famous one-liners were his own, and he was often allowed to ad-lib his own dialogue.

"It's what I love doing," Chase said.
