BEDFORD, N.Y. — An outdoor movie night, a 5K road and trail race in Katonah and a sunset garden party are among the events happening around Bedford this weekend.
Friday, Sept. 7
Bedford Movie Night in the Park: The Bedford Village Chowder and Marching Club presents a free family event under the stars: Movie Night in the Park. The makeshift outdoor theater will be showing "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island." Gates open at 6:30 p.m. and the film starts at 7:15 p.m. Refreshments will be available. Bedford Village Memorial Park, Greenwich Road, Bedford.
Saturday, Sept. 8
KES Fifth Grade Car Wash: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. A team of fifth graders will wash your car for $10 to earn money for their end-of-the-year trip. Coffee and bake sale items will also be on sale. Rain date is Sept. 21. Katonah Elementary School, 106 Huntville Road, Katonah.
Katonah 5K/Runners for Reading Fundraiser. 8 a.m. There will be a 5K, a 1-mile race for older kids and tot races for little kids. Cost is $25 to pre-register and $30 if registering on the day of the race. Register online or in person at CrossSport Woman by Friday at 9 p.m. Starting line at Katonah Elementary School, 106 Huntville Road, Katonah.
Opening Night Celebration: Bernstein in Black and White: 8 p.m. To celebrate the opening of Copland House's concert season, pianists John Musto and Copland House Artistic Director Michael Boriskin will play two-piano versions of songs from Leonard Bernstein's musicals "West Side Story," "Candide" and "Wonderful Town." Adult Ice Skating at Harvey School Rink: 9:30 a.m. At Hickory Hill Figure Skating Club's fall sessions, adults can improve basic skating techniques and learn the fundamentals of ice dancing. Nine weeks of practice is $325 for two hours or $180 for one hour of skating every Sunday. Half-hour group classes are available for $10. Bedford Hills Neighborhood Association Pool Party: 12 p.m. BHNA invites all Bedford Hills residents to its first-ever pool party. Say goodbye to summer with DJ entertainment, water and pool contests and a 50/50 raffle. Adults get in for $5 with ID and kids are free. All proceeds will benefit the Bedford Hills Swim Team. Sunset Garden Party and House Tour: 5 -8 p.m. Tour the sculpture gardens of Katonah residents John and Marlies Fry and enjoy hors d'oeuvres and drinks while overlooking the reservoir at sunset. Then tour the Frys' passive solar home. Tickets are $50 and all money raised goes to benefit the Katonah Village Library. Tickets will be available at the library's front desk through Friday.
