BEDFORD, N.Y. — A children's story time, a farm market and a “hawkwatch” are among the events happening around Bedford this weekend.

Friday, Aug. 17

Listen: Lore and Legend: 4:15 p.m.-5:15 p.m. Children in grades three through five can come to the library to listen to chapter books read aloud. Bedford Hills Free Library, 26 Main Street, Bedford Hills.

"Visions of Summer" Photo Contest Deadline: 11:59 p.m. Tonight is the deadline for the Katonah Village Library's Teen Photo Contest "Visions of Summer." Young adults ages 10 to 18 may submit their photo by email to katref@wlsmail.org by 11:59 pm. Entries must include name, age, photo title, address and telephone number. Winners will be announced on Aug. 27. Katonah Village Library, 26 Bedford Road, Katonah.

Saturday, Aug. 18

John Jay Homestead Farm Market: 9 a.m. The market will offer a variety of baked goods as well as cheeses, wine, meats, fresh seafood, prepared foods, handcrafted condiments and other local and regional products. Enjoy a guided tour of the 62-acre homestead during market hours. John Jay Homestead, 400 Jay St., Katonah.

Field Trip to Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge: 8:45 a.m. Join Bedford Audubon naturalist Tait Johansson for this field trip to Queens that coincides with high tide in the bay, when shorebirds are most numerous. Bring binoculars, lunch, sunscreen, water and boots. Registration is required. Bedford Audubon Society, 35 Todd Road, Katonah.

Sunday, Aug. 19

Hawkwatch at Arthur Butler Sanctuary: 9 a.m. Aug. 15 marked the start of the Bedford Audubon Society’s annual autumn Chestnut Ridge Hawkwatch, now in its third decade. Why not check out the Hawkwatch platform, located at the Arthur Butler Sanctuary in Bedford Corners? The lookout platform is open to the public and will be monitored daily for hawks from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Dec. 1.  Arthur Butler Sanctuary, 265 Chestnut Ridge Road, Bedford Corners.
