What's Happening Around Bedford This Weekend

BEDFORD, N.Y.— An outdoor a cappella concert, an improvisational dance performance and a 4-H showcase are among the events happening around Bedford this weekend. 

Friday, Aug. 10

A Cappella Concert in the Park: 7:15 p.m. Sean King, a 2010 John Jay High School graduate, will be performing with his summer a cappella group, the Coastal Vibes, which is comprised of college students from Johns Hopkins University, Boston University, Pennsylvania State University and West Chester University. Admission is free but donations are welcome. Katonah Memorial Park, 98 North St., Katonah.

Toy Sale Kicks Off at Learning Express: 9:30 a.m. Starting today and running until Aug. 20, shoppers will receive a free gift valued at $17.95 when they make a purchase of $25 or more from ALEX Toys. Learning Express Toys, 434 Old Post Road, Bedford.  

Saturday, Aug. 11

Second Saturday Family Fun at the Farm Market: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Families with children ages 3 to 10 will be able to visit the Potting Shed to learn about the gardens, make a sachet and participate in a scavenger hunt. John Jay Homestead, 400 Jay St., Katonah.

Second Saturday: Spontaneous Combustion: 6:30 p.m. Performance artist Marcy B. Freedman and modern dancer Marsi Burns will present a series of improvisational performances while the band Strange Pools plays its funky brand of freestyle harmony. Tickets are $10 museum members and $20 for non-members. Katonah Museum of Art, 134 Jay St., Katonah.

Sunday, Aug. 12

Stories from the Front: 1 p.m. At "Stories From The Front”, a program sponsored by Chapter 49 of the Vietnam Veterans of America in conjunction with the county of Westchester, chapter president Al Zawiski of White Plains will give an account of the Battle of Red Warrior LZ against the Viet Cong, which took place in South Vietnam in the fall of November 1966. Lasdon Park, Arboretum and Veteran's Memorial, 2610 Route 35, Somers, Katonah.  

Showcase of Project Work and Showmanship Skills at Muscoot Farm: 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Westchester County 4-H Club members will be evaluated for showmanship in poultry, rabbits, dairy goats, cattle and sheep, as well as dog obedience and agility training. Families can enjoy music, face painting, hay rides and the usual Sunday Muscoot Farmers' Market. Muscoot Farm, 51 Route 100, Katonah.
