What's Happening Around Bedford This Weekend

BEDFORD, N.Y. — A tapas and wine benefit for Nicaraguan refugees, a football game between high school rivals and the preview of the Katonah Museum of Art's new "Ice Age" animation exhibit are among the events happening around Bedford this weekend.

Friday, Sept. 14

Tapas, Wine and Friendship: A Benefit for Good for Kids: 7 p.m. Come for an evening of good food, good friends all for the benefit of Good For Kids, a local charitable organization of students and adults that supports the education of young people living in a Nicaraguan refugee camp in Costa Rica. Ticket cost is $50. Event to be held at Fellowship Hall, adjacent to St. Matthew's Church, 382 Cantitoe St., Bedford.

Fox Lane-Horace Greeley Football Game: 6:30 p.m. The Fox Lane-Horace Greeley football rivalry is among the top match-ups in Section 1 high school football. The Fox Lane team has a chance to redeem itself Friday after a loss to Walter Panas in its season-opener. Fox Lane High School, 632 S. Bedford Road, Bedford.

Saturday, Sept. 15

Sci-Fi Book Club meeting : 1:30 p.m. Drop by the first meeting of the newly formed Sci-Fi Book Club to find out about new books and authors and talk about the ones you love. Light refreshments will be available. Katonah Village Library, 26 Bedford Road, Katonah.

Author Talk with Andrzej Krakowski, filmmaker and screenwriter : 3 p.m. Andrzej Krakowski describes his screenwriting experiences and provides insights into the screenwriter’s craft. Reception and  book signing to follow. Krakowski's film projects include "Triumph of the Spirit" starring Willem Dafoe, "Eminent Domain"  starring Donald Sutherland, and "Portrait of a Hitman" starring Jack Palance. Katonah Village Library, 26 Bedford Road, Katonah.

Late Night Preview Party: 9 p.m. Be the first to tour the “Ice Age” exhibition before its public opening. Mingle with your friends and with artists and creative staff from Blue Sky Studios while enjoying catered food of lavish savory and dessert offerings, special wines, and a late-night buzz. $30 members, $40 non-members. Katonah Museum of Art, 134 Jay St., Katonah.

Sunday, Sept. 16

Breakfast with the Hawks: 8 a.m. Join the Bedford Audubon Society for a complimentary breakfast at the Hawkwatch, timed to take advantage of peak Broad-winged Hawk migration. This event is co-sponsored by the Westmoreland Sanctuary. Register with Westmoreland Sanctuary Naturalist Adam Zorn at (914) 666-8448. Meet at the Hawkwatch platform at the Arthur Butler Sanctuary, 265 Chestnut Ridge Road, Bedford Corners.

In the Beginning: Ice Age 3D: 1:30 p.m. Hear Blue Sky artists and directors discuss the ins and outs of story development, model making, set design, lighting and directing animated feature films. Talks are free with museum admission. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. Members and children under the age of 12 get in free. Katonah Museum of Art, 134 Jay St. Katonah.,
