What To Do Around Bedford This Weekend

BEDFORD, N.Y.-- An Oktoberfest party, a "blessing of the animals" ceremony and a BMX aerial stunt show are some of the events happening around Bedford this weekend.

Friday, Sept. 28

What We Really Know About Suicide and Medications: 9:30 a.m. At this lecture concerning the public health problem of suicide, Kelly Posner, director and principal investigator at Columbia University's Center for Suicide Risk Assessment, will discuss the center's rating scale, which is designed to conclusively identify at-risk individuals who may have otherwise been missed. Fee is $15. Four Winds Hospital, 800 Cross River Road, Katonah.

Saturday, Sept. 29

Oktoberfest on the Patio: 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Bedford Post Inn celebrates Oktoberfest with lunch, beer and traditional German music. Bedford Post Inn, Old Post Road, Bedford.

Yoga Flash Mob: 1 p.m. Help to bring awareness to childhood sexual abuse by participating in a yoga flash mob. Abuse victims often separate their mind and body, and yoga is a vehicle that heals that connection. Check out the "Voice the Unspoken" website to find out more, practice the yoga sequence and purchase a T-shirt. Participants will receive information about the exact location upon registration. Sunday. Sept. 30

Blessing of the Animals:10 a.m. Members and friends of the congregation are invited to bring their pets to the church as part of its regular worship service to honor and bless them. All participants are urged to bring their animal companion on a leash or in an appropriate carrier. Katonah Methodist Church, 5 Bedford Road, Katonah. 

SukkahFest BMX Aerial Stunt Show: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Chabad of Bedford will host a BMX aerial stunt show at its Sukkah festival. Come celebrate the Jewish holiday with Sukkah decorating, crafts, food and family fun. Chabad of Bedford, 133 Railroad Avenue, Bedford Hills.
