What To Do In The Bedford/Mount Kisco Area This Weekend

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. —  A concert with the Fox Lane High School Chamber Orchestra, a benefit for Friends of Karen and the opening of the Katonah Museum of Art's new quilt exhibit are among the events happening in the Mount Kisco and Bedford area this weekend.

Friday, Feb. 22

Katonah Thrift Shop Book Sale: 10 a.m. Collect armloads of books at bargain prices during the Katonah Thrift Shop's annual book sale through March 2. Featured are adult and children's fiction and nonfiction; CDs, DVDs and X-Box computer games; coffee table books and recent best sellers; as well as picture books and learning materials for children. Kid's Movie Night at Westchester Mixed Martial Arts & Fitness: 6 p.m. Drop off the kids for two hours for a movie, popcorn and pizza. This event is appropriate for children ages 5 through 13. Fox Lane High Chamber Orchestra Concert: 7 p.m. Enjoy the Fox Lane High School Chamber Orchestra's Basically Baroque Concert. Program will include works by Bach, Vivaldi, Geminiani, Albinoni and Corelli. A meet-the-artists reception will follow. The Presbyterian Church of Mount Kisco, 605 Millwood Road, Mount Kisco.

Saturday, Feb. 23

SAT Bootcamp: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For $165, students can learn every strategy they need to outsmart the SAT with Catalyst's SAT Bootcamp at Fox Lane High School on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 23 and 24. Sign up online. Fox Lane High School, 632 S. Bedford Road, Bedford.

Wine & Dine Divine: 7 p.m. Enjoy an evening of casual elegance at  "Wine & Dine Divine." This event at The Yellow Monkey vintage store in Cross River is designed by ConsciousWine. Enjoy samples of boutique wines selected by Vine & Co. matched with locally sourced gourmet cuisines. There will also be an opportunity to meet a Friends of Karen family and hear their story first-hand. Tickets are $75. The Yellow Monkey, 792 New York Route 35, Cross River.

An Acoustic Evening with Ashley Wool and Friends: 7:30 p.m. For the first time in more than three years, local artist Ashley Wool will be performing her original songs and some covers as well. This event will kick off a concert/cabaret series at The Space, featuring local artists. Copies of Ashley Wool's CDs will be available for purchase. Tickets are $7. The Space, 25 Hubbels Dr., Mount Kisco.

Open Mic Night at the Muscoot Tavern: 8 p.m. Come for dinner and drinks and enjoy local musicians at a special Open Mic Night.  BUKU Blu will be rocking out as back-up band for any local talent who want to show their stuff. Muscoot Tavern, 105 Route 100, Katonah.

Purim Carnival & Service: 10 a.m. Celebrate Purim at the Temple with a reading of the Book of Esther, singing and a performance by the Shaaray Tefila Purim Players in "Shushan Idol.” Kids of all ages can come in costume and enjoy a Purim Carnival with games, face painting, raffles, prizes and food. Temple Shaaray Tefila, 89 Baldwin Road, Bedford Corners.

Exhibit Opening: 10 a.m. "Beyond the Bed: The American Quilt Evolution" traces the dynamic evolution of the North American quilt in form, fashion and function from the beginning of the 19th century to now. More than 30 quilt masterpieces are installed according to their originally intended function as bed coverings, articles of clothing, furniture accessories, wall decoration and three-dimensional sculpture. Six of these quilts are among “The Twentieth Century’s Best 100 American Quilts” selected in 1999 by a panel of experts from four national quilt organizations.
