Registration for this year’s event is at 9 a.m., with the Walk beginning at 10 a.m.
“Walk for PKD is a wonderful opportunity to truly engage the entire community offering a hands-on experience to help understand PKD,” said Darien DaCosta, chapter coordinator of the Hudson Valley Chapter of the PKD Foundation. "We are looking forward to welcoming families, friends and individual supporters to walk with and raise the funds necessary to find a cure for PKD.”
Over the past decade, the chapter has raised in excess of $580,000 with more than 1,900 walkers participating. The Hudson Valley Chapter’s Annual Walk for PKD was started in 2004 by the Grossman Family, with Heidi Grossman Cambareri taking on the volunteer role of walk coordinator. Cambareri was supported by her parents Wayne and Sandy Grossman, and her sister Heather Grossman Buckley. Their dedication and support to the Hudson Valley Chapter and Walk for PKD helped grow the event each year, with more than $550,000 raised since 2004.
Grossman, Cambareri and Buckley have PKD. Cambareri was diagnosed with PKD at age 18 and is currently enrolled in a clinical trial with a drug called Tolvaptan, which shows promise as the first ever potential treatment for polycystic kidney disease.
Her father, Wayne, had a kidney transplant 18 years ago after years of dialysis, following kidney failure due to PKD. The entire family will be walking annual walk for PKD which is planned for with their team, Hooked on Hope, for the 11th time this year. Hooked on Hope has raised more than $30,000 since 2004.
