Promote ALS Awareness, Research At White Plains Meeting

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- U.S. Rep. Nita M. Lowey, D-Westchester/Rockland, will join Patrick Quinn, ALS patient and co-creator of the Ice Bucket Challenge, and others on Tuesday, Aug. 26, for a meeting to discuss the need for increased awareness of and federal research funding for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Also participating will be Dorine Gordon, ALS Association Greater New York Chapter president and CEO, and Bertha Braunfeld, wife and caregiver of an ALS patient.

The meeting will be held at 11 a.m. at 222 Mamaroneck, Suite 312, White Plains.

In less than four weeks, the ALS Association has reported that donations have increased more than 25-fold compared to last year, totaling more than $62 million and generating more than 1.2 million new donors. This year, the National Institutes of Health is committing $40 million to ALS research, up from $39 million last year.
