James E. Burns, 34, of Bridgeport was targeted as a suspect in a drug sales investigation by the Darien Detective Bureau, police said. Burns sold narcotics to undercover officers on three separate occasions in January 2013, Darien police said in a press release.

Darien police filed for a warrant for Burns’ arrest after the sales last year, but he was arrested by the New York Police Department on unrelated charges before the warrant was served, police said. Burns had been in a New York State prison since his arrest, and he waived extradition to be taken back to Connecticut, police said. He was turned over to Darien Police on Friday.

Burns was charged with three counts each of sale of narcotics, possession of narcotics and possession with intent to sell, and one count of narcotics possession within 1,500 feet of a school. He was held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
