BEDFORD, N.Y. -- In an exhibition incorporating contemporary art, relics from the natural world, and items of material culture, "The Nest," examines the beauty and symbolism of the bird's nest in art and culture.

The exhibit will be on display at Katonah Museum of Art from March 6 to June 19.

Drawing its inspiration from the form of the nest, the exhibition examines how the fundamental drive to gather, assemble, and create is a function of both nature and the artistic process. The exhibition includes a blend of authentic bird's nests from the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History collection alongside twenty five works by eighteen contemporary artists, and a selection of Pre-Columbian feathered textiles.

"The Nest" provides a lens through which to observe the parallels between human and animal behavior, raising timely questions about the survival of the birds and their habitats in a fragile ecological world.

Woks of the following artists are on display:

  • Sharon Beals
  • Sanford Biggers
  • Dove Bradshaw
