Kemesha Robert Johnson, age 40, died around 3 a.m. Sunday, March 13, in Bridgeport near the intersection of Boston Avenue and Remington Street, authorities said.

A witness on the scene told officers a woman driving a 2007 Black Volvo XC90 was stopped at a red light on Barnum Avenue when it was rear-ended by a silver or gray Honda Civic, said Scott Appleby, Bridgeport's director of emergency management.

The Honda then backed up and hit a parked car and passed the Volvo on the right, sideswiping the Volvo and a parked car before fleeing, he said.

The driver of the Volvo started following the Honda in an attempt to get the license plate, the witness told police.

As the Honda was driving west on Boston Avenue the driver hit Johnson who was attempting to cross the street, Appleby said.

The Honda dragged Johnson, a Bridgeport resident, about 200 feet until she fell in the westbound lane between Remington and Dover Streets, he added.

The car fled the scene, traveling west on Boston Avenue towards East Main Street, Appleby said.

The Bridgeport Serious Crash Team arrived to investigate the crash and were able to notify Johnson’s family, he added.

Anyone with information about the fatal crash should call Officer Thomas Gall Bronner at 203-576-7640 or use the Bridgeport police tip line at 203-576-TIPS.
