Miracle On Myrtle Runners Support Needy Stamford Family

STAMFORD, Conn. – Three groups of runners took to the treadmills at Toyota of Stamford on Saturday to run the marathon distance of 26.2 miles in the Miracle on Myrtle, an annual fund-raising event that supports a needy Stamford family.

The runners raised more than $1,500 with Toyota of Stamford making an additional contribution and Casey’s Tavern, 85 Woodside St., donating a portion of beer sales at the post-relay party.

Bill Brucker, from Family Centers, a Fairfield County non-profit that co-sponsored the event with Toyota of Stamford, said a family that lost its home was selected to receive the funds raised.

Brandon Campbell, sales manager at Toyota of Stamford, said this is the sixth year of Miracle on Myrtle fund-raising drives and the first marathon event, which he plans to continue next year. The event gets its name from the Myrtle Street location of the car dealership.

Dave Turk, from Branchburg, N.J., signed up to run eight miles and led off the race for one of the teams. He is a financial planner at The Falcon Financial Group who collected donations from co-workers and associates. He ran the New Jersey Marathon in May and said, “I run in sleet, rain and snow.”

On Saturday, he ran inside the Stamford Toyota dealership for a good cause.
