KATONAH, N.Y. -- The Annual Katonah Village Improvement Society Wine Tasting is set to pair wine and food, along with jazz on Saturday, March 5, at the Katonah Village Library.
“I just flew in from Napa,” says KVIS organizer Bill “Tish” Tisherman, “and boy is my palate tired!”
Fortunately for guests, Tish, who claims stand-up comedy is his “third or fourth midlife crisis,” is also in the wine trade, and guarantees the Cabernets (and other wines) will be “105 points, or my name’s not Robert Parker!”
Sharing the stage will be a homegrown jazz quartet, the Hip Replacements “I love these guys,” says Tish.
The quartet’s keyboardist, Robert Kessler, is also a huge wine enthusiast.
“Try the Pinot Noir, man. 2014 is one hep vintage,” he suggests. “Or the Rheingau Riesling, it’s got that petroleum and slate thing going!” The poster for the event promises “lots of fun and fine wine.”
This is the ninth annual event, which raises money to fund various Katonah Village Improvement Society projects (tree replanting is a big one, of late) and basically give the community a good reason to come together to eat, drink and schmooze. Sixteen wines in all will be served, divided…theatrically. A “Broadway” station will feature Cabernets, Bordeaux, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and rising stars Rosé and Prosecco. “Off-Broadway” wines include Gruner Veltliner, Albariño, (Spain’s great white hope), Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and the sun-washed reds of Sicily.
Food for the evening, as in past years, will be a smorgasbord of home-cooked nibbles and noshes prepared by the Ad Hoc KVIS Pot Luck Committee. “The spread is a solid notch above finger lickin’ good,” assures Tish. “And the forecast is calling for 100 percent chance of meatballs… they go great with the Cabernet!”
The event will take place at the Katonah Village Library from 7:30-10 p.m. The library is at 26 Bedford Rd, Katonah. There is a $50 donation ($60 at the door) order under "donate" on its website .
