The incident took place in Inwood around 5:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 4.

According to the Nassau County Police, a 50-year-old woman was walking on Nassau Avenue when the man, identified as Freddie Keitt, age 44, approached her from behind.

Keitt forcefully wrapped his arms around the victim's waist and dragged her to a concealed area between two parked vehicles next to the sidewalk, police said.

Police said a struggle began and Keitt pushed the victim to the ground, positioning himself on top of her while attempting to remove her pants. He then began to strike the victim multiple times in the head, with a closed fist, causing her substantial pain.

As a result, the victim sustained numerous injuries, police said. The victim was able to escape and Keitt fled the area.

After a thorough investigation, Keitt was located on Tuesday, Sept. 5, and arrested without incident.

He was charged with attempted rape and assault and held for arraignment on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

Detectives request if anyone believes they may have been a victim of Keitt, you are requested to contact Special Victims Squad Detectives at 516-573-4022 or call 911.
