Richard Bloom, 79, Of Sleepy Hollow

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – Richard Bloom of Sleepy Hollow died Saturday, Feb. 27. He was 79.

Bloom was born Sept. 6, 1936, in Brooklyn to Mandel and Sylvia Bloom. He graduated from Brooklyn College in 1958 with a bachelor's degree in education.

He worked at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, helped open Sarah Newman Nursing Home in Mamaroneck and was the CEO and president of Richmond Children's Center in Yonkers, retiring in 2005.

Bloom was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Myra; a son, Eric and his wife Annie of Southampton, Pa.; a daughter, Elizabeth Bloom Oberhand and her husband Jason of Trumbull, Conn.; a brother Stephen and his wife Joan of Jackson, N.J.; and seven grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Tuesday, March 1 at 11 a.m., at Waterbury and Kelly Memorial Home, 1300 Pleasantville Road, Briarcliff Manor.

The shiva period will take place at the home of Myra Bloom from Tuesday, March 1, to Friday, March 4, and at the Oberhand home in Trumbull, Conn., on Saturday, March 5, and Sunday, March 6.
