Man Nabbed In Westport For Stealing Pro-Israel Signs, Police Say

A 27-year-old man has been charged with allegedly stealing pro-Israel yard signs in Fairfield County in front of a police officer.

New York City resident William Banks, of Brooklyn, was charged with larceny on Tuesday, Feb. 27 in Westport.

Lt. Eric Woods of the Westport Police said on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023, an investigation was launched after receiving complaints from residents of the theft of Israel Flag yard signs in the Colony Road neighborhood.

While the investigating officer was speaking with a homeowner, the officer saw Banks driving a white vehicle, stealing another yard sign, and fleeing the area, Woods said.

The investigation revealed that a total of five signs were stolen. 

A warrant was issued and Banks turned himself in to the Westport Police Department.

Banks was charged with larceny and then released on a $500 bond. 

He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, March 19.
