Officers responded to reports of shots fired outside a New Rochelle apartment complex on Main Street shortly after 11:45 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, New Rochelle Police Capt. Cosmo Costa said.

Upon arrival at the building, investigators said they found three 9mm shell casings and a bullet impact on the maintenance doors of the building, prompting further investigation.

Costa said that approximately an hour later, at around 12:45 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29, officers from the New Rochelle Police Department were called to respond to a private residence, where there were reports of more gunshots fired. Investigators arrived and found a man who had been shot in the leg.

The victim stated that, while sitting outside, he was approached by three men, one of whom struck him in the head with a gun, at which point he fled the area and heard gunshots ring out. Once he was inside the residence, he realized that he had been shot.

Police treated the victim at the scene before he could be transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Both incidents are being investigated, Costa said. It is unclear if the two incidents are related. No other information is expected to be released as the investigation is ongoing, police said.

Anyone with information regarding the incidents can contact investigators at the New Rochelle Police Department by calling (914) 654-2217.
