Chamber Talk was created to give audiences a deeper understanding and connection to Caramoor’s Music Room events and its artists. Each talk follows a similar pattern of lecture, concert and conversation. This salon-style performance format allows audiences an opportunity to go in-depth and get up-close to the most personal aspects of music.
In the final installment, Mandel will describe the unique friendships and collaborations that develop in a mentorship program where emerging artists come to learn, grow and perform together.
“There is always more to learn about classical music," said Mandel. "I feel that knowledge about a work of art heightens one’s appreciation for it."
Mandel is a Canadian violist and one of the most acclaimed active chamber musicians of his generation. He is currently affiliated with many chamber groups, including the Silk Road Ensemble, the Knights and the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra. Mandel is an alumnus of Evnin Rising Stars at Caramoor and made appearances more than 30 times.
Joining Mandel for discussion and performance will be violinist Colin Jacobsen, who is a founding member of the NYC-based orchestra the Knights and string quartet Brooklyn Rider.
The program will also include an in-depth look into Mendelssohn's viola quintets. An afternoon tea in the Rosen House will follow.
