Purim is so called because the story's villain, Haman, cast the "pur" (the lot) against the Jews, yet failed to destroy them. Reading a Purim story is a central part of the Purim celebration. All are welcome to share in the festivities with the Temple Shaaray Tefila congregation on Sunday, March 1. The day begins at 9:30 a.m. with a Purim program, "The Megillah Yankee," Spiel and Service, with Rabbi Stacy Bergman for families with children under five.

The program for families with children in kindergarten and older begins at 10 a.m. At 11 a.m., the carnival doors open. This year’s carnival will feature ice skating, inflatables, face painting, a DJ dance party and much more. Food trucks will be on hand to provide the crowd with amazing delicacies from grilled cheese to dessert.

The Purim celebration will be at the Social Hall in the Temple’s Main Building, 89 Baldwin Road in Bedford Corners. Carnival wristbands cost $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Parents and children under two are free. For further information or to purchase tickets, visit www.shaaraytefila.org or contact the temple’s office at (914) 666-3133.
