Clark will present an informative and light-hearted journey exploring how wildlife law developed over time. This lecture will combine a biological and legal perspective to present a historical and entertaining approach to understanding what “wildlife” is and what is "law." Clark will begin with the early Greeks and Romans and conclude with a discussion of local, national, and international laws protecting wildlife, including the Endangered Species Act.

The critical importance of both birds and oysters to the development of modern U.S. wildlife law will be discussed. No prior legal or biology background is required of the audience.

Clark is a professor of conservation biology at Fordham and holds a Ph.D. in biology from the University of Washington, a master's degree in natural resource policy from the University of Michigan and a law degree from the University of Michigan Law School. He is a member of Bedford Audubon’s board of directors, chair of its Science and Research Committee, and has chaired or served as adviser to several other committees and programs.

Refreshments will be served at 7 p.m. and the lecture will begin at 7:30 in the Garden Room. No registration is necessary. Bring a reusable mug to help reduce ecological footprints.
