'I Am My Own Wife' Comes To Katonah Village Library

ARMONK, N.Y. -- The Small Town Theatre Company will  present productions of "I Am My Own Wife" by Doug Wright at The Hergenhan Center in Katonah Village Library.

Productions will be held Friday, June 12, Saturday, June 13, Friday, June 19, and Saturday, June 20. 

" I Am My Own Wife" tells the story of East German transvestite Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, who operated an antique business for years despite the encroaching dangers of the Nazi and Communist regimes.

Tom Kramer is the artistic director for The Small Town Theatre Company, where he directed "Copenhagen" and "12 Angry Men." Director Mara Mills has been an educator, storyteller, writer, director and producer for more than 30 years. She teaches theater, storytelling and creativity at Empire State College and is one of the co-founders of the Herbert Mark Newman Theatre. Her focus, at the theater and in her teaching, is to use the arts to involve the community, examine social issues and introduce new works to the public.

These include works by seniors, domestic abuse survivors, visual artists, poets and playwrights who have been performed locally, regionally and internationally. Mills received the 1995 East Coast Theater Conference Award for Outstanding Service to Theater and the 2007 Cab Calloway Award for Theater.
