The hair salon, whose grand opening Thursday was attended by Mayor Michael Cindrich and a large contingent of the Mount Kisco Chamber of Commerce, is in a creatively designed, modern art-filled 2000 square foot space at 145 Kisco Ave.
Featuring the expertise of stylists Gina Marie Lamanna, Claudia Rinaldi, Alice Salvatore and other beauty professionals, Salon D offers traditional salon services like coloring, cuts, blow drying, highlights, keratin hair-smoothing treatments and, soon nail services as well, said salon manager Jeliana Garces.
“It’s a very friendly, warm atmosphere. Very relaxed,” said stylist Edie Hilton, who has been cutting hair since the 1970s. “I like to make my clients look their best, feel comfortable and walk out feeling like a million bucks.”
The salon has a retinue of unique features: Didomenico’s husband David Palaia is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon who will be available to clients on Saturdays for Botox and filler treatments. The salon also offers chemical peels and is part of the MyDevaCurl network which trains stylists to cut and color curly hair.
Didomencio’s business partner Donna Samaha, whose husband is an owner of Village Social in Mount Kisco, runs a boutique within the salon that the two have named DawnDon Designs, which features jewelry, accessories and Sugarlips brand club and workout gear.
The jewelry is made by Miami-based designers and ranges in price from $20 to $200 but mostly falls in the $50 to $60 range, Samaha said.
While the salon opened in October, its grand opening had been scheduled for Nov. 1 but was put off until Thursday due to the Oct. 29 arrival of Hurricane Sandy.
Salon assistant Sami Rodriguez, a Yorktown resident and beauty school graduate, said the delay was not necessarily a bad thing.
"It was kind of good to get a feel for what this area is,” she said, as word began to get out. Now the salon has a good client list and is almost fully staffed, she said.
At Thursday’s rescheduled ribbon cutting ceremony, chamber member Dan Taplitz, owner of Right Click Solutions in Mount Kisco, officially welcomed Didomenico and her staff to the area. “It’s a great space. All the best of luck,” he said. “We hope we can give back to the community,” said Didomenico.
Salon D is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. For an appointment, call 914-666-2226.
