The store is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily, and is receiving regular shipments of supplies to help customers cope with the massive power outages wrought by Hurricane Sandy. According to an e-mail sent out Thursday by owners Bart and Diana Tyler, the 125-year-old store has a substantial stock of power-outage supplies that they received Wednesday night: D batteries, lantern 6V batteries, 2 D flashlights, emergency radios, propane tank adapters and propane camp stoves, among other items. The hardware and outdoor equipment store currently only has power enough to run its lights and various other devices but no telephone connection, according to Thursday’s message. However, the store is still receiving its normal weekly replenishment shipments and the owners are looking into getting lighting devices and lamp oil. The Tylers and manager Jeff Kellogg included a hopeful message in their message to customers: “Slow down. Let go of worrying about when the power will be restored. Live differently so that you can be content even under challenging circumstances…Consider how fortunate we are to have grown accustomed to such luxurious comforts as electricity, running and hot water, refrigerators, phone and internet.” New York State Electric & Gas announced on Thursday afternoon that customers in Bedford should expect to have full restotration of power within six days.
