KATONAH, N.Y. Throngs of people filling the sidewalks of Katonah Avenue, weaving in and out of rows of tables and clothing racks. This is the familiar sight of Katonahs Sidewalk Sales Days.
The event on Aug. 3 and 4, sponsored by TrustCo Bank and organized by the Katonah Chamber of Commerce, will feature bargains on merchandise sold by Katonahs independent stores.
"Sidewalk Sale Days have been the days when the natural charm and beauty of Katonah is really on full display," said Katonah Chamber co-President Chris Roberts. This event highlights Katonahs sense of community, something the hamlet prides itself on, he said.
Shoppers can also enjoy a leisurely lunch in one of Katonahs downtown restaurants, such as Blue Dolphin, Peppinos or Willie Nicks, and complete their afternoon by taking a stroll past Katonahs historic Victorian homes.
Roberts said the store sales and promotions are not limited to what is on the sidewalk.
Its not about cheap discounts or sale prices; its more about unusual promotions and funky things, he said. "A lot of the usual suspects are going to have some cool stuff.
At the event, shoppers can check out the bargains at a slew of participating businesses: Blue Dolphin, Boo Girls, Charles Department Store, Ebba, Eclectic Collector, Eiluj, Enchantments, Fine Lines of Katonah, Jems, Katonah Jewelers, Katonah Paint and Hardware, Katonah Wine and Liquor, Kelloggs and Lawrence, Little Joes Books, NoKa Joes, Robin McCormick Jewelry and Design Studios, Sheptin Tutoring Group, Squires, Suburban Groove, Toney Toni & The Gang and more.
Parking in the commuter lots is free after noon on Friday and all day Saturday. The Sidewalk Sale will run from about 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
