Getting To Know: Ryan Muller, The Westchester Bank

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – While not realizing it at the time, Ryan Muller was gaining invaluable business experience while working as a caddy during a dozen summers at Knollwood Country Club in Elmsford.

Now a Lender at The Westchester Bank, Muller looks back at how the many years of toting golf bags helped pay dividends for him in the workplace.

“It all starts with a solid work ethic, learning to deal with different types of people and having good communication skills,’’ said Muller, a Yonkers native, who joined The Westchester Bank in February. “Without a doubt, the skills developed at Knollwood helped me professionally. Having an ability to communicate with and listen to people, while at the same providing great service is exactly what I’m doing now as a Bank Lender at The Westchester Bank.”

Another lesson learned by Muller was the power of networking as a tool toward starting a successful career. After graduating from Siena College with a B.S Degree in Accounting in 2010, it was a Knollwood member he used to caddy for who helped secure his first bank position at Hudson Valley Bank.

“I’m a big believer in the role community banks play locally, especially as an option to the bigger banks,’’ Muller said. “Working at a community bank like The Westchester Bank allows a lender to get to know customers, and provide the personalized service you just won’t get at other banks. Bigger does not translate to better. I consider myself very lucky because I enjoy helping people with their financing needs, whether it’s on the personal or business end, it’s very rewarding. And when you do your job right, the customer and Bank become true partners in each others’ success!”

Ryan married last year and looks forward to becoming more actively involved in the many community and charity related activities that The Westchester Bank supports.

His passion for golf remains and he enjoys an occasional round with good friends on weekends at Dunwoodie Golf Course in Yonkers.
